Laurence Walpole Obituary

Laurence (Larry) Walpole

Resident of San Carlos

Larry Walpole left this world on November 18, 2010 at 87 years of age. Larry is survived by his wife, Edith, his brother Peter, his son Carl Strasen and his family.

Larry served in the English Royal Air Force throughout WWII. He was a decorated soldier and D-Day veteran. After the war, Larry emigrated to Canada, and soon met and married Edith who was a young beautiful German refugee. In 1956, they emigrated to California.

Larry helped found and mentor the Belmont Cycling team. He was involved in the careers of many young cyclists. Bicycling remained Larry's passion throughout his life.

Larry worked at Pan-Am as an airplane mechanic and a member of the Transport Workers Union. He was a supporting member of AA for over 30 years.

Larry leaves behind a legacy of incredible stories, and the wisdom of experience. He loved this life, and he fought for every last breath.

A memorial service will be held on December 11 at 1:00pm at the Congregational Church of Belmont at 751 Alameda De Las Pulgas, Belmont.
