Patricia M. Bergsing

Resident of San Carlos, CA

Age 77, who spent 35 years as a Burlingame librarian, died just before midnight Monday, December 20, 2010 after a long illness. Ms. Bergsing was born December 28, 1932 in Chicago but spent most of her youth in Montana where she graduated from Miles City High School. In 1957 she began work at The Burlingame Library, a rookie at the branch on Easton. In 1977 she was named head librarian, a job she held until retirement in 1992. Patti married a school mate from Montana, Dick Bergsing, in 1955, and they remained a couple for 48 years until his death in 2003. They had no children but dozens of close friends and two cats. Pattie was predeceased by her father, her step father, and her mother.

Patti and I were united by our membership in Soroptimist International of Burlingame-San Mateo until her retirement. Our friendship was a loving and lasting fellowship. God Bless dear Patti.

I was priviledged to serve on the Burlngame Library Commissiion for 8 years while Patti was Librarian and it was always a pleasure. She, being from Montana and I, being from Wyoming always felt a 'kinship." May God Bless Her.

Patti was my mentor, colleague and friend for over 40 years. She guided the Burlingame Library through good times and difficult times and helped make the Library the outstanding institution it is today. I am grateful to her for her guidance and encouragement over her long career. Alfred Escoffier

I never met Patricia Bergsing, but my family and I benefited from her tenure at the Burlingame Public Library. As a current member of the BPL Board of Trustees, I have the opportunity to view and work with the results of her years of dedicated service. The City of Burlingame owes her a debt of appreciation for all she gave us.
