Pearlie Baldwin Obituary

Pearlie Baldwin

Resident of East Palo Alto

Born on November 12, 1920 in Columbus, Georgia, son of the late John and Lizzie Baldwin. He attended Radcliff School and was drafted into the US Army at an early age. A World War II Veteran, he retired from the US Army after 40 years of service. He went on to work for the Cupertino School District as a Carpenter, responsible for building most of their existing schools. He retired in the early 1980's.

Sgt. Perlie Baldwin was a good man and has helped many people in many ways. He was stubborn, but was always there when needed. He was a skilled carpenter by trade and was actually a baseball player in the Negro League. He loved golfing, fishing with family and friends, (especially with J.B.), cracking walnuts and playing jokes on others. When his health was good, he made a yearly trip to his hometown of Columbus to spend time with family, working on their homes and make repairs. He'd often stay for months. Perlie was the patriarch of his family, always supportive, always strong.

He leaves to cherish, his loving wife of 67 years, Cozzie Mae Baldwin; five children: Jackie, John, Barbara, Margaret, and the youngest, Joyce, all of East Palo Alto, CA; eleven grandchildren: Angela (m. Melvin), Moses (m. Techia), Kiera, Dulani (m Lise), Sabrina, Jason, Natasha (m. Darrick), Nicole, Anitra, William Jr. and Herrell Jr.; seventeen great-grandchildren; a beautiful sister, Mary Washington of Columbus, Georgia, and a brother, John Baldwin Jr. of Montgomery, Alabama; a very close friend, Mr. J.B. Hoffman and his mother, Mrs. Anna Hoffman; a host of nieces and nephews, and family friends.
