Raeder von Uhlit Obituary

Raeder (Ray)

von Uhlit

Resident of Brentwood

1940 - 2010

Ray passed away unexpectedly at the vonUhlit Farm in Brentwood, CA on Sat. 9/25/2010. Ray was the 2nd of four children born to George H. & Ruth R. von Uhlit at the family ranch in Napa, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Martha. He is survived by the love of his life, Carol, his wife of 34 years as well as his loving daughters Lise von Uhlit (Winters, CA), Bonnie and her husband Tim Farley (Fremont, CA.),Shirley von Uhlit (Dixon, CA.) Granddaughter, Carrie von Uhlit (Fort Worth, TX), Granddaughter Deanna & Grandson Evan Farley (Fremont, CA). Also surviving him is his devoted sister Greta von Uhlit (Napa, CA), a brother as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In 1977 Ray and Carol moved from Napa to Fremont, CA. where they started their own successful business, Fremont Industrial Lift.

But with Ray's love of farming he wanted a fruit farm, so in 2002 they purchased 46 acres of land and started building. He planted 1600 fruit trees and farmed over 33 acres of hay. They built their dream home together on the farm and that is where he lived, loved and died. He felt he was very blessed to be in Brentwood on his beloved farm.

He also loved and built custom cars and would never miss Hot August Nights in Reno, NV, and spending time with his fellow car friends.

He was so loved by his family and friends. He touched many lives with his gentle spirit and his kind and loving ways. He will be greatly missed.

On Sunday, October 24, 2010 there will be a Celebration of His Life at their residence at 1400 Chestnut Street, Brentwood, CA 94513 from 12 noon to 4:00 p.m. Provided by Bay Area Cremation & Funeral Services of Brentwood (925) 516-2710.

Carol and Family

Our prayers and thoughts are with you today as you celebrate the life of Ray and his many accomplishments during his lifetime. He was always kind and had a warm smile to greet you with. I met Ray while I was at Napa High and he was a friend of my brother, Jack. His mother, Ruth, would always let me out of study hall early and I was very grateful to Ray for that. God Bless

Ray was a great guy and a Icon of the Hot Rodders in California, I have know Ray for over 50 years, I worked at the ranch for George and Ruth when Ray was the guy who ran the show, Ray inspired a bunch of us in high school to get into Hot Rodding. Each time I have seen Ray in the past he was always the same, great guy with a big heart. We will miss this truly one of a kind man. He has had a great life and one can only hope for the same

To us the world stop still at the news of Ray's passing. We will always remember that warm smile and twinkle in his eyes. We are thankful for the many wonderful memories that Ray gave us - boating on the Delta, card games, good jokes, and farming wisdom. He had a big heart and a genuinely gentle, compassionate spirit. He will be missed and always remembered. May the family find solace in knowing that heaven received a special soul the day Ray left us. God bless all.

I will always cherish the fond childhood memories of hanging out at Ray and Carol's house while growing up in Fremont. They were like a second set of parents to me. I thought of Ray as the "gentle giant"! While his size was intimidating, he was always soft spoken and had a heart of gold. As a child I thought he could work miracles. I'll never forget the day I wrecked my mother's car and drove straight to their house and tearfully asked Ray if he could fix it before my mother got home from work! I know that if he could have he would have. That was the type of person he was. I regret not staying in touch over the years. I'm glad to know that he and Carol followed their dreams and had a chance to build their dream ranch in Brentwood as well as a few fancy hot rods along the way. I know he had a large following of friends and family who will miss his warm and caring nature. My thoughts and prayers go out to Carol and family during this time of loss.

We are SOOOOOOOO sorry we are unable to attend. Ray was more than a "boss" to Troy - his was/is a father figure/mentor & just an awesome guy. They don't make them like that anymore. I know Troy try's to do what Ray would do in ANY given situation. We love you all!!
