I saw Tom's race number and picture today on the Western States trail. Located near the swinging bridge. What a great honor. Looks like Tom loved the trail as so many runners do.

Tom inspired and aided hundreds of runners over the years. He lives on in their accomplishments.
I ran with Tom for seven years from 1992 to 1999. Runs with Tom were always interesting. He once spent a good part of a run on the Upper Wildcat trail at Rancho San Antonio describing to me how a helicopter flies. Once in a while the trail took us somewhere other than where we intended to go when we started. With Tom's example and encouragement, I took on challenges - like 50-mile races - that I would never have thought possible.

So many memories I have of Tom in the 90's. Races, Thanksgiving Dinners, Striders, etc. and most of all his encouragement for my husband, Rob Greenlee. Rob had run a few 10Ks when he moved to Palo Alto and connected with the Strider's running group. Due to Tom's continuous support, Rob worked his way up to his first marathon - the SF and he never looked back. Rob continues to run marathons back in DC where we live. I reconnected with Tom about 2 years ago on FaceBook so I knew he was very ill. I was about to send Tom an email today but something stopped me. I Googled him and read the sad news. Tom's spirit will live on
