William Swalwell Obituary

William George Swalwell II

Resident of San Mateo, Ca.

Bill, loving husband, father, uncle and grandfather, peacefully died Monday, Nov. 29th at a nursing home in Belmont, Ca. He was 87. Bill was born to the late Melvin and Elsie Swalwell, Oct. 7, 1923, in Seattle, Wa. He was raised in Aberdeen, Wa. Between his Junior College and Whitman College years, Bill served in the Army in Europe during WWII. Then Bill met his wife to be Marjorie. After their marriage in 1948, the Swalwells lived in Bellevue, Wa. And Anaheim, Ca. before settling in San Mateo in 1957.

During retirement Bill spent a lot of his time collecting and repairing antique clocks. He also loved sailboats and going on several cruises with Marjorie. He served on the Board of Directors at his condo complex for several years. He was also a former member of SIR (Sons In Retirement) in San Mateo. Bill and Marjorie also enjoyed going to many social events. Besides his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his 2 older sisters Jane and Patricia. Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years Marjorie Howay Swalwell, two children Lora Henderson of Mountain View, Ca. and William Martin Swalwell of Milpitas, Ca., 2 grandchildren, 3 nieces and 4 nephews. The family will have a private memorial for Bill. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to the charity of your choice.
