Jane L. Sears

Resident of Burlingame

Passed away on April 26, 2012 at the age of 82 at her Burlingame home. Jane was a resident of Burlingame for more than 60 years. She was a freelance writer and author of a number of published romance novels in the 1960's.

Jane was born to Edgar Sr. and Ruth McCarthy Sears in Abilene, Kansas, on June 14, 1929. She was predeceased by her parents, a sister, Nell Ann Murphy, and a brother, Eddie Jr. She is survived by eight nieces and nephews and many friends.

Jane worked as secretary to the president of the Kimberly Clark Corporation during the 1950's. She then followed in the footsteps of her mother, Ruth McCarthy Sears, who authored 80 gothic mysteries and young adult romance novels that were published here and abroad. Jane's specialty was nurse romance novels, and she was considered one of the most popular and best 1960's authors of that genre. A devout Catholic, she also wrote articles for Catholic publications including Catholic San Francisco, Catholic Twin Circle, and Catholic Culture.

A memorial for the dead (Parastas) will be held at 7:00 pm Tuesday, May 1 at Crosby N. Gray & Co., 2 Park Road, Burlingame. A Divine Liturgy (Mass) will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, at Our Lady of Angels, 1721 Hillside Drive, Burlingame. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 2255 Cristo Rey Drive, Los Altos, CA.

Jane will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers donations for a memorial icon to honor her memory may be sent to St Basil the Great Byzantine Catholic Church, 14263 Mulberry Dr., Los Gatos, CA 95032.
