Joseph Bockman Obituary
Resident of Millbrae
Eddie passed away at home on September 29, 2011. He was 91.
He is survived by his nephew, Gary Bockman and his companion Ruth E. Bennison of Millbrae.
He was a native of Santa Ana and was a well-known and admired baseball player who later scouted for the Philadelphia Phillies and Florida Marlins. Seventeen players he scouted went into the major league and he was in several Halls of Fame.
At his request, there will be no funeral services. Private interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale. There will be public celebrations of his life both in the Bay Area and Southern California at a later date. No flowers, please. Any memorial contributions should be sent to the Professional Baseball Scouts Foundation, 5010 N. Parkway Calabasas, Ste. 201, Calabasas, CA 91302.

Dear Ruthee, Barry and I just heard of the passing of Eddie. We both shed a tear as we have many special memories of Eddie and yourself. On one of Eddies' first trips to Australia while he was with the Phillies, he employed Barry as a scout. Barry considered Eddie his mentor and their friendship continued over the years. We looked forward to those Christmas phone calls and catching up. Our prayers and thoughts are with you............Barbara

I knew Mr. Bockman from his time living in Danville. I was a window clerk who loved talking to him about baseball. I coached kids and sent them to his summer Phillie camps in Redding. Can you let me know when there may be a memorial? My e-mail [email protected]

Ruthie, I am sorry to see Eddie go. He was a great friend for many years, and I am sorry that I never made it to Milbrae to meet him. My prayers and thoughts are with you and his relatives.

Ruthy, so sorry to hear about Eddie. He ws always such a nice man. Always enjoyed seeing him especially at games when Matt was playing at Cal. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
