David Arnold Poole was born Dec. 2nd, 1946, in Pasadena, Texas, to Joe Matt and Lola Fanny Poole. David graduated from Sonora High School, in 1964. In 1965 he went to MJC for a semester and then on to Cal Poly to pursue his Ag Engineering degree. He served in the Army during Viet Nam and came home to marry the love of his life, Katie Nelson. In 1980 they moved to Ola, Idaho. He bought and ran the Ola Mercantile for several years, then moved to a ranch south of Ola and raised cattle, hogs, and kids. He and Katie had 4 children of their own, and many "adopted kids", 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
God and family were the most important things in David's life. He and Katie and their family were members of the Ola Community Church, where he also served as Elder for many years. He was a 4-H leader for 17 years, and served on the California 4-H council when his kids were in

He started Poole and Sons with his son Aaron, which makes wooden boxes for many well known people and companies, including Pres. George Bush, Kid Rock, Budweiser Beer, Coke, Pepsi, Nabisco and many more.
He then went back to farming with his son Jason and were including his grandsons, Bubba, Nate, Justin, Cody and Travis. They had a long line of John Deere tractors which they all loved to drive. Daughter Katrina also lives on the family ranch.
He was just starting to build a butchering business with his son Ross, where they were raising hogs to make the Poole family sausage recipe, which was 5 generations old.
He is survived by his wife Katie of almost 50 years, son Ross Poole and wife Gretchen of Emmett, Idaho, daughter Katrina McClure and husband Charles of Ola, Idaho, son Aaron Poole and wife Jeannie of Emmett, Idaho, son Jason Poole and wife Amanda of Ola, Idaho, and "adopted" son Frank Stephens and wife Daleen of Adrian, Oregon. 16 grandchildren and spouses, Kristy, Bubba and wife Kylie, Rusty, Tyler, Brandon and wife Morgan, Nathan, Sadie and Dustin, Lane, Justin, Thomas, Hannah, Shaun, Sam, Cody, Travis, Tristin, and 6 great grandchildren, Paityn, Dusty, Trevaun, Felicity, Ryder, and 1 on the way. He is also survived by brothers Joe Poole and wife Debbie of Sonora, Calif, and George Poole and wife Gaylene of La Mesa, Calif, and a sister Prisilla Karne and husband Dennis of Jamestown, Calif. and many well loved nieces and nephews and many, many friends and neighbors.
He was so loved by his family and will be missed so much.
Funeral services will be held, Friday, Dec. 12th at 10:00 am, at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett, Idaho, with graveside services to follow at the Ola Cemetery.

I'm sorry to hear of Dave's passing. I send condolences to Katie and his family. Although, I had not seen Dave since high school, I had heard he was a good family man and worked hard for them. God be with you in this time of loss and need.

David, it has been many years since we cruised main street Sonora, Ca but I remember it like it was yesterday. You were always my best friend and even though it has been a long time since we were together, I always knew we would remain friends. I am so happy how your life has been spent serving God and providing that leadership to your family, community and church.
To Katie, I share your grief as David left you far too soon!
With love, Peewee

My love and truly heartfelt sympathy to you, Katie, and all your family. Dave was larger than life, full of life, and full of compassion and kindness. What a great legacy to leave for this community and his family. His change of address was welcome for him and sad for his friends and family. May you take comfort in the knowledge you will see him again.

Whenever I was in Ola visiting family, and we would go to church, I was impressed how Dave would be Officiating a lot of the Service; whether it would be a normal Sunday or the Christmas Eve Service. I respected that he spoke with Command but with Compassion for people. Dave always made me feel Welcome. I was sad to hear of Dave's passing. He will be missed as not only a vital part of the Ola community but for the person he was. My heart and prayers go out to Katie and the family.

You were a great guy with a flaming personality. Plus a great auctioneer even if a person thought they were bidding against never existed. We are still laughing over that during School Spring Fund Raiser. The community and many people shall miss you and the leadership,
Our prayers, hope and love sending to Katie.
