Gordon Lanham Obituary

Gordon Thomas Lanham was born July 29, 1944, in Council, Idaho, to Hazel M. and Rex E. Lanham and he died Dec. 5, 2013.
He was raised in Council, Cascade, Boise and at Cabin Creek on Big Creek in the Idaho Wilderness. He went to school in Boise and Greenleaf, graduating from Gooding High School in 1962, where he lived with his great-grandmother. He truly was a "rolling stone" and loved to fish, hunt and boat. His entire work career was in powerline construction, ranching and building, with his father's Rex Lanham Construction Company and later with his own Hell's Canyon Construction company. He worked and traveled throughout the northwest and California. His true passion was his ranch on the Squaw Butte where he lived with his family for over 40 years and where he always wanted to be.
He gathered numerous friends which he dearly loved and spent time with. They and his family were his constant support system during his illness and death.
He is survived by two sisters, one brother, two sons, six grandsons, five great-grandchildren and numerous friends and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson.
The family is planning a memorial service, to be announced, at a later date when travel will be easier for his family.
Arrangements by the Potter Funeral Chapel, Emmett.

Sorry to hear about the passing of your Dad. Tom and our Dad, Roger would help each other out back in the day. I think they did a powerline project down in St. George Utah and of course Tom invited our family up to Big Creek a few times. My best memory was riding with Dad up the canyon following Tom with horses in tow and we were getting quite a few cars backing up behind us and we kept thinking Tom was going to use one of the turn-offs to let cars pass but everytime a turn-off came by, Tom just kept driving, we loved it.

Mr. Latham was one of my most favorite people in the world, he was like a movie star in my eyes. The world lost a very special person when he passed, my deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

Glad I had a chance to talk to you on Thanksgiving, we never did miss a holiday. I will never forget you my friend, nor will my girls, we all loved you very much and you were always there. I hear you were always a heartbreaker in your day but this time you really did it. My girls were all messed up to hear of this and our hearts go out to his family. Tom and my Grandpa were the only men that I can say that I loved, glad I got to tell him Thanksgiving....we love you Tom.

For being such an ornery ole man, he sure did take great care of my son Rob...He fought a good fight, the last time I seen him and talked to him was a good conversation and will always be in my thoughts...he really did have a big heart.

I talked with Tom when he was in the hospital, you could tell by his voice that he was in pain and seemed tired. He went through a lot and is certainly in a better place. We were class mates in Emmett and he always had time for a good story or joke when we ran into each other.
Our sincere sympathy to the entire family.
