William Moore Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 15 to Feb. 14, 2018.
William E. Moore
April 2, 1935 - January 14, 2018
William Earl Moore was born on April 2, 1935 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to William A. Moore and Norma Lilly (Tony) Moore. He passed away on January 14th, 2018 at his home in Emmett, Idaho surrounded by his immediate family.
At age 6 weeks, Bill moved with his family to Salinas, California where he received his elementary and secondary education. Early on his parents accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior and the family attended the Church of Nazarene. Bill was 10 years of age when his father passed away. His mother subsequently remarried a man who had two daughters.
After graduating from High School, Bill started working for the F. W. Woolworth Company, eventually attaining a store management position. He married Eloise P. Friesen on September 19, 1953 and they had three children, Kenneth, Terri, and William D. Bill managed several Woolworth stores in California until he felt the call to fulltime Christian ministry.
In 1968, Bill and his family moved to Nampa, Idaho where he attended and graduated from Northwest Nazarene College. While still a college student, he began his pastoral ministry at the New Plymouth, Idaho Church of the Nazarene. In 1971, all within three months, Bill graduated from NNC, was ordained an elder in the Church of the Nazarene and he accepted a call to pastor the Emmett, Idaho Church of the Nazarene where he served as senior pastor for 15 years. Bill was a respected member of the local ministerial association and the community at large, involving himself as an active member of the Emmett Kiwanis Club. He promoted an active children's bus ministry and was influential in the encouragement of a number individuals who were called to fulltime ministry. The church saw its apex in average Sunday School and church attendance during this period, hiring it's first fulltime youth and music minister Bob (Darla) Sturtevant. The current Sanctuary building was constructed and dedicated during the period of Bill's Emmett ministry. He was not only an excellent Bible student, preacher, teacher, and church administrator but also a faithful pastor and confidant having an organized home visitation program, always being available for those unexpected times when a pastor's presence and reassuring concern was needed.
Bill accepted a call in the summer of 1986 to pastor the Eureka, California Church of the Nazarene where he served as senior pastor for thirteen and a half years until he retired in February of 2000 after serving a total of thirty-one years in dedicated and successful fulltime soul winning ministry.
Upon retirement, Bill and Eloise returned to Emmett, Idaho and their home that they had rented out while in California. In retirement, Bill remained active in church affairs, resuming teaching the men's early morning bible study that he had initiated years before while pastoring in Emmett. For a number of years, he also taught an adult Sunday School class and led an evening couples Bible study. He was available for "pulpit supply" when asked to fill in. Bill relinquished those ministry opportunities when the physical inroads of Parkinson's disease finally made it difficult to continue.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William A. Moore and Norma Lilly Moore and a nephew, David Abar.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Eloise; son Kenneth (Stephanie) Moore of Emmett, Idaho; son William D. (Teri) Moore of Emmett, Idaho, daughter Terri L. (Ron) Wilson of Eureka, California; sister Barbara (Bill) Gunn of Sonora, California; sister Frances Abar of Dayton, Ohio; grandsons Jerad and Michael Williams of Eureka, California; granddaughter Lisa Kelso of Caldwell, Idaho; granddaughter Ashley Moore of Emmett, Idaho; grandson William A. Moore of Emmett, Idaho; granddaughter Chelsea Cheramie of Greely, Colorado; granddaughter Darcy Moore of Boise, Idaho; eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 22, 2018 at the Emmett Church of the Nazarene. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Jan 21st from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett. Interment to follow at the Emmett Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bill's name to the Emmett Church of the Nazarene.

Sad to hear he is gone, but glad to know he is with the Lord........we missed him when we moved away!

I thank God for the time that I was allowed during Pastor Moores' and Bobby Sturtevants ministries. It was a blessing when I was just a young teenager. Violet Clausen guided my path to this wonderful Nazarene family. This experience still is with me today. His advice was sound and I can still here them today if I stay still and just listen for them, I can hear them again. The same Voice that, I'm sure, He heard too, and you.
