Eugene B. Hartnett

Eugene B. Hartnett, 69, of Marlboro died Sunday, August 6, 2017 at home after a 4 year struggle with cancer. He leaves his beloved wife Cassendra M. (Ward) Hartnett and his sisters, Ellen Nord Braasch of NH and Therese Hartnett of Haverhill; 3 sons; Marcellus Kirby and Jason Kirby both of NH and Malcom Ward of ME and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was born in Somerville, the son of the late Eugene B. and Frances M. (Welsh) Hartnett. He grew up in Dorchester, West Roxbury and Roslindale before moving to Marlboro in 1980. He graduated from Cathedral High School in Boston in 1966 and Northeastern University in 1971 where he earned a M.S. in Computer Science. His subsequent career in software engineering included work at Boston College, Weston Geophysical Corp., Asyst Automation, Aseco, Tyco Flow Control and EMC from which he retired. For 2 years he wrote the 'Marlboro Roundu' for the Middlesex News. He was active with the Friends of the Marlboro Public Library until his death and he enjoyed playing with the Eastern Poker Tour. Following cremation a Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 19 at 11 AM at the John P. Rowe Funeral Home Inc., 57 Main St., Marlboro. Burial will be at a later date. Calling hours will be held prior to services on Saturday in the Funeral Home from 9 to 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society, 9 Erie Drive, Natick, MA 01760 or to the Lupus Foundation, 40 Speen Street, #101, Framingham, MA 01701.
