William McRobert Obituary

William J. McRobert, 74, died Monday, July 28, 2014 after a long illness. He was the husband of Mary M. (Kearnan) McRobert, to whom he was married for 50 years. Born in Natick, he was the son of the late Philip and Esther (Hoey) McRobert. He was a 1958 graduate of Hopkinton High School.and served in the U.S. Air Force. In 1964 he became an officer for the Hopkinton Police Department and he remained there, retiring as Chief in January 1999. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Cynthia Correia of Hopkinton and his son Jeffrey McRobert and wife Rachael of Woodstock, GA. He also leaves five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In addition, he leaves his sisters Gail Belmore of Milford, Judith McCommis of Bellingham and Janet MacKay of Hopkinton; and his brother Philip McRobert and his wife Donna of Hopkinton. The funeral will be held Friday, August 1, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. from the Callanan Cronin Funeral Home, 34 Church Street. (www.callanancronin.com). A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. John the Evangelist Church at 11:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will take place at St. John's Cemetery immediately following the Mass. Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday, July 31, 2014 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Donations may be made to the Hopkinton Police Association, 74 Main Street, Hopkinton, MA 01748.

Mary and family,
I just returned from Maine and learned of Bill's passing. I am so sorry. I have many law enforcement memories of working with Bill. He will be missed by the law enforcement and Hopkinton community. Tom Kinder

Chief McRobert was the Police Dept Sergeant, when he hired me as a Part-Time Patrolman, in 1984. I worked with him until his retirement. He was always a mentor to me, and a great teacher. He will be greatly missed.
