George Leavitt Obituary

George Edwin Leavitt, 81, of Moultonborough, NH, passed away at Lakes Region General Hospital, in Laconia on Friday, May 22, 2015 after a brief illness. Born on April 19, 1934, in Framingham, MA, he was the son of the late Ralph and Virginia (Bert) Leavitt. George was raised in Framingham and Shrewsbury, MA, graduating from the Major Howard W. Beal Memorial High School, in Shrewsbury. He furthered his education at Northeastern University, in Boston, graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering. George served with the Army Corps of Engineers during peacetime and with 6 months Active Service and Active Reserve for a total of eight years. His working career includes 32 years with the Fenwal Company of Ashland, MA, retiring from that position as a Chief Engineer, in 1990. While living in Ashland, MA, he was a Boy Scout leader and active with Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Patron with his wife for 3 years. George relocated with his wife Charlotte to Moultonborough after his retirement in 1990. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who enjoyed mechanical work, woodworking, fishing, and hunting. As a dedicated member of the greater Moultonborough community George volunteered with the Central NH VNA & Hospice and the Interlakes Community Caregivers. George was a dedicated Master Mason with the Cho-corua Lodge #83 F&AM, in Holderness, a past Master of the North Star Lodge AF&AM, in Ashland, MA, Past Master, 39th Lodge of Instruction, in MA, and a member on the DeMolay and Rainbow Girls Advisory Boards. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Charlotte A. (Brown) Leavitt, of Moultonborough; son, William Leavitt and wife Jean, of Oxford, MA; daughter, Kathleen Robinson and husband Larry, of Strafford, VT; four grandchildren, William Leavitt, Jr., of Norton, MA, Felicia OKeefe, of Bellingham, MA, Danielle and Justin Robinson, both of Strafford, VT; four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Squam Valley Masonic Building (Rtes. 3 & 25, on the Holderness/Center Harbor Town Line).
