Curtis Howland Obituary

Curtis M. Howland, Jr. COCHITUATE Curtis M. Howland, Jr., 93, died peacefully in the comfort of his family on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009 following a period of declining health. He was born in Framingham on Jan. 7, 1916, the son of the late Melbourne C. Howland and Eunice Maude (Barrows) Howland. Mr. Howland is survived by his wife Helen M. (Tufts) Howland of Sudbury, formerly of Cochituate. He was the father of Maralyn A. MacGillivray of Salisbury; William L. Howland of Maynard; David A. Howland of Framingham; Margaret H. Cote of Port Charlotte, Fla.; Richard C. Howland of Wayland; Nancy C. Hensley of New Sharon, Maine and Peter T. Howland Sudbury. He was also the father of the late Bonnie C. Howland and Jean E. Cummings. Also survived by his siblings; Arthur Howland of Holden; Raymond Howland of Framingham; Roy Howland of New Hampshire; Albert Howland of Maine and Florida; Lillian Cornish of Framingham; Eva Arkason of Framingham and Edith Stonehouse of Holliston. Brother of the late Thomas, George and Robert Howland and Ruth Clifford. Also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Mr. Howland has been a resident of Cochituate for over 60 years and previously resided in Framingham where he attended the Framingham schools. He served his country proudly during World War II as a Ship fitter 2nd Class with the Seabees of the United States Navy. He has been an active member and served all of the offices of the VFW Post 6260 Charles Alward of Wayland, including the Chaplain and Past-Commander. He also served as a member of the American Legion of Wayland. He retired in 1981 after a long career as the Supervisor of Janitorial Services at Raytheon. For many years he also worked for the Town of Wayland as a school bus driver. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter and particularly was skilled with the bow and arrow. HE was a propagator for game birds and raised many varieties of hens and birds. Visitations will be held on Wed. Nov. 18, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m., in the Bryant Memorial Chapel of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (OFF Rte 30), Cochituate. His funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at 10:30 a.m., followed by interment in the Howland family lot in Lakeview Cemetery in Cochituate.
