Barbara J. Hennessy

Barbara J. Hennessy, 86, of Milford and formerly of Holliston, MA, passed peacefully on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at Countryside Health Care, surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael A. Hennessy, who died in 1994 and her brother, Robert Ellis. Born in Cambridge, MA, she was the daughter of the late Cyril and Florence (Amsden) Ellis. She was a 1948 graduate of Watertown High School and also graduated from Bates College where she met the love of her life, Michael. Barbara is survived by her two sons, Peter A. Hennessy and his wife Pam, of Uxbridge and Thomas W. Hennessy and his wife Beth, of Mendon. Four grandchildren, Alyssa Hennessy, Michael Hennessy, Sarah Hennessy and Shannon Hennessy. Aunt Barbara was loved, and will be missed, by her nieces and nephews. Barbara was a teacher at Holliston High School until her retirement in 1988. She and Michael traveled the country for several years until they settled in Ormond Beach, FL. Barbara returned to Massachusetts after her husbands death to be close to her children and grandchildren. Barbaras greatest love was being in the presence of her family and friends. She found joy in visiting Tamworth, NH and Rockport, MA where she enjoyed many years of family reunions. Barbara was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles and cross stitch. The family would like to recognize the staff at Countryside Health Care of Milford, for their kindness and compassion. A memorial service will be held and will be private. There are no calling hours.
