Clarence Phipps Obituary

Clarence R. Phipps, 84, of Mendon, passed away Tues. Aug. 17, 2010 in UMASS Medical Ctr., Worcester. He was the loving husband to Betty L. (Robson) Phipps. Mr. Phipps was born in Milford the son of the late Fred R. and Ernestine (Knox) Phipps and was raised in Mendon. He was a graduate of Clark University, Worcester in 1950. A resident of Mendon for the past 33 years, he had previously lived in Upton. Mr. Phipps was an international sales manager for the former Draper Corp. in Hopedale for nearly 30 years and was a veteran of WWII, serving in U.S. Navy. He was devoted to his family and was a faithful servant to the Town of Mendon and his country. He served as a former Selectman and Town Clerk for the Town of Mendon, served as past chairman of the school committee for the Mendon/Upton Regional School District, and was the 2005 Mendon Senior Citizen of the Year. He was an over 50 year member of United Parish Church, Upton where served as former Sunday School Supt. and Deacon. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles, bingo, travel and water sports on Lake Nipmuc. He was an over 50 years member of the Montgomery Lodge of Masons AF & AM in Milford, and former van driver for the Mendon Senior Center. In addition to his wife Betty of 62 years, he survived by a son Wayne R. Phipps of Upton; a daughter Nancy C. wife of the late Walter Beauchamp of Hyannis; 3 sisters Laurita A. Paddock and Arlene V. Reed both of Mendon and Norma A. Allard of AZ; 3 granddaughters Kelly, Katherine, and Kimberly; 4 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeaceased by a son Mark S. Phipps and 5 brothers Kenneth, Donald, George, Russell, and Fred Phipps Jr. Funeral services will be held Sunday August 22, 2010 at 1 PM in United Parish Church of Upton, Central Square, Upton. Visiting hours will be Sat. Aug. 21, 2010 from 3 | 7 PM in the Buma-Sargeant Funeral Home, 42 Congress St., Milford, MA 01757.
