Dear Thieman family,
Bob was one of my patients at Bethesda North Hospital back in May of this year (I was his dietitian). While I did not have the opportunity to get to know him well, he and you, his family, left a lasting impression on me, showing me what true love and devotion you all have for each other. Please accept my deepest condolences on his passing, and know that he is not forgotten by those whose lives he touched.

Elaine, siblings, children and grandchildren,
My deepest sympathies. It was with great sadness to recently learn of Bob's passing. Bob and I were acquaintences in high school and good friends in college at Miami University. During my senior year, we made several trips together back and forth between Oxford and Dayton to see our beautiful Good Samaritan School of Nursing sweethearts.
Those trips were always fun--made extra special through Bob's zest for life, his infectious laugh, and quite frankly, his incredible presence.
Unfortunately, during the intervenig years, we lost regular contact, but the close friendship always endured. Through social media, we reconnected a couple of years ago as I learned of Bob's battle with ALS.
Despite Bob's immense health challenges, he was always supportive and interested in my activities, including a Lammers' history project related to the family harness shop business in St. Henry and the Civil War Service of two of my ancestors.
And during my own serious cancer fight over the past 18 months, Bob was always quick to offer his support and prayers.
Bob was truly one of the "Special Ones" we are gifted to meet along this journey of life. In gratitude, memories of Bob and of his amazing spirit will always remain with me.
I am sorry I will be unable to attend Bob's memorial service, but please know he touched my life significantly and I will be there in spirit.
Love Always,
Mark Quinn

To the Thieman family,
So sorry to hear of Bob's passing. He was a joy to be around, full of life and humor and always fun to work with at the Civil War reenactments in Celina when my wife Karel and I lived there. He was always wanting to blow up something while at these events! May he rest in peace and may our Good Lord comfort your family in this time of sorrow. We all will miss him.

Dear Elaine and family: This is a prayer I found in dad's bible after he passed away. We read it at his and mom's funerals and it gave us some comfort as we grieved their passing. I hope it provides some comfort for you and your family at this time of sorrow. Love you! Jim Leach and Michelle O'Neil
Safely Home
I am home in heaven, dear ones; Oh so happy and so bright. There is perfect joy and beauty. In this everlasting light.
All the pain and grief is over, Every restless tossing passed; I am now at peace forever, Safely home in heaven at last.
Did you wonder how I so calmly Trod the valley of the shade? Oh, but Jesus' love illumined Every dark and fearful glade.
And he came himself to meet me In that way so hard to tread; And with Jesus' arm to lean on, Could I have one doubt or dread?
Then you must not grieve so sorely, For I love you dearly still; Try to look beyond earth's shadows, Pray to trust our Father's will.
There is work still waiting for you, So you must not idly stand; Do it now, while life remains, You shall rest in Jesus' land.
When that work is all completed, He will gently call you home; Oh, the rapture of that meeting, Oh, the joy to see you come!

Ellie, when i first came to the ALS support group, it was Bob who welcomed me. We talked about golf and all the things that he used to do when he had use of his arms. You and Bob helped me get through tough times dealing with Sharons illness. I hope you find peace and strength. Your family are in my prayers.

We will keep with us memories of many years of friendship with Bob and Ellie. It is hard to believe Bob has left us but soon we will be able to smile when we think of him. Bob was a man of strength of character that showed throughout his life and in the face of death. Bob leaves us wonderful memories of a very special man. He loved his family and showed that love every day. He told us that God had sent him Ellie and he was so very right. Ellie showed us all what a wonderful wife and caretaker she is as she cared for Bob with love and a smile on her face. We honor you Ellie, you are amazing. Kelly, Andrew and Lindsay, your Dad loved you so much and was always proud of each of you. As you heart heals and your life settles into a new pattern please know that Bob is with God and free of pain and will be watching over all of us. WE LOVE YOU

Ellie- You have been so blessed with such a wonderful man in your life all these years! It has shown in your work- your life- your friends - your patients- your children - all these years. You and Bob exemplify what I think true love is. I'm so glad I got to watch him on FB and somewhat got to know what a sweet man he is. I will miss his remarks on my page. Now I understand the joy you have always carried in your heart. True bonds can never be broken. I love you
