HAROLD STEINBERG Obituary

Published by Minuteman from Mar. 30 to Mar. 31, 2016.
STEINBERG, DR. HAROLD Dr. Harold Steinberg, long-time resident and physician to generations of Westporters, passed away in Sarasota, Florida on March 24 from complications of Parkinson’s disease. Dr. Steinberg, a co-founder in 1960 of the medical practice that is now Internal Medicine Associates of Westport, was affiliated with Norwalk Hospital. He was also affiliated at The Jewish Home for the Elderly in Fairfield for a number of years. Harold was born in Norwalk on December 12, 1927, to Michael and Rae Steinberg. He graduated from Norwalk High, Yale University and New York Medical College. He completed his internship and residency at Buffalo General Hospital, specializing in hematology. He practiced medicine in Westport for over 30 years. He was an avid golfer and tennis player, and a long-time member of Birchwood Country Club, which his father co-founded. Harold was also a lifetime trustee of Temple Israel. Most importantly, he loved to travel and toured virtually the four corners of the earth. Harold Steinberg is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sybil Schless Steinberg. He is also survived by Jonathan Steinberg of Westport, State Representative, and his wife Nancy; Peter Steinberg of Easthampton, MA, and his fiancée Susana; and Richard Steinberg of Upper Saddle River, NJ and his wife Kristi. Harold was so proud of his eight grandchildren: Rachel, Margot, Matthew, Charlotte, Nicole, Ari, Jacob and Isaac. Memorial services will be held at Temple Israel at 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 27. The family will be sitting Shiva following the burial at 317 Lansdowne, Westport, as well as on Monday and Tuesday, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-9:00 both days.
