Kathleen Turk Obituary

KATHLEEN M. TURK JUL 18, 1947 - OCT 26, 2010 Kathy Turk passed away in Modesto on October 26, 2010. Kathy was born in San Diego to Harold and Margaret Brew. She grew up in Fresno and Los Angeles. She moved to Modesto in 1977 to raise her daughter and began her 30 year career in the Title/Escrow Industry. Kathy was an amazing mother and friend. While working full time, she found time to be a Girl Scout leader, horse show mom, volunteer, and unofficial therapist to many teens, co-workers and strangers. KT (as she was known to her friends) had an incredible sense of humor and loved to have a good laugh. She was an avid reader and movie buff. She loved to travel and enjoyed England and Scotland during the last 15 years. Kathy was always incredibly supportive to her friends and family and would lend her sympathetic ear and offer sound advice when asked. For this and so much more, KT will be greatly missed. Kathy was a devoted grandmother and was in the process of preparing to move to Aptos to be closer to him and her family when she passed away. Kathy is survived by her daughter, Nancy Turk, son in law Erik Herbst, and grandson Tanner, all of Aptos; sister Shirley Dalla Villa, and niece Sherry, both of Modesto. She also leaves an extended family of in-laws with whom she was close to and loved by until the end. As well, Sharon and Bruce Baldwin were constant sources of support and love for Kathy the last few years of her life. www.modbee.com/obituaries

Nancy,
You don't know me but your mother and I grew up together in Westchester. We went to grammar school, Vistation and she went on to Westchester High. We stayed friends until after she married your father and moved. We lost contact. However, about 5 yrs ago, we found each other through Facebook and corresponded thru e-mail at her job for about one year. Last I heard from her, she was getting laid off from her job at Stewart Title. I'm so sorry we never got in touch again.

I don't know if your Aunt Shirley will remember me. I was a constant companion of your mothers during our school years.

I will keep those good memories of your mother close to me. She was a loving person.

God bless you and your family.
Patti

Nancy and all those who loved KT: Kim Mendes and I knew KT for many years as our "go to" escrow person. she was always fun to work with and shared her travel stories and plans. We'd heard that she'd left the business and sadly we never had contact again. We were both shocked and saddened to read of her death. She was a very dear and special person to us both.

I met Kathy through her daughter Nancy, and immediately felt the warmth and welcome she extended to so many of Nancy's friends (no matter how strange and kooky some us might have seemed). I am sorry that Kathy passed at such a young age, but take comfort in knowing that her last days were spent in happy anticipation of moving in with Nancy & Erik to be a full-time grandmother to young Tanner.

You will be missed, Kathy, but your presence will continue to be felt in the lives of your family.

I was very sad to hear about KT. I worked with her for several years at NATCO and she became a good friend. When I moved to Oregon she was my first visitor along with Jill and as always we had a great time. I'll always remember her and she will have a special place in my heart. I'm sorry for your loss Nancy!

I met Kathy through my job as an Orthopedic Technician when she had her foot surgery. I came to find out that we had much more in common than just that. She worked for many years in the title and escrow business along with my mom Pat. Her daughter knew my sister Elena in high school. When Elena passed away in 1999, Kathy attended the service. She told my mom how my sister her had touched her daughter's life in high school. Kathy was always so sweet and caring and a pleasure to have as a patient. She would always ask me how my family was and how my mom was doing. She wasn't the kind of person to ask for help and once needed to come in to the office for something but not having a vehicle was going to call a cab for a 2 min car ride to the office. After repeatedly telling me no, she finally relented and let me bring what she needed by her house on my way home. She was very proud and didn't want to ask for help, but she had been there for my family and I wanted to return the favor if only in a small way. Nancy, I have never met you but she so often talked about you and her grandson with such pride and love and would share with me about her visits. My family and I are thinking of you and keeping you in our prayers.

Nancy, Tanner, Erik -

You know how much your Mom was loved and especially by me and Bruce. Your mom and I shared so many special moments over the years and laughed so hard at times we would be crying......and then cried so hard at others we would begin to laugh at each other.

KT was an amazing woman and I am having trouble adjusting to her not being on the other end of the line asking me about my day, or what Officer Baldwin was up to.

She allowed me to see the "bigger picture" many times in people and situations, however was always my biggest supporter when I had a disappointment in others. She had a tremendously soft heart, but also that "the hell with 'em" spirit that we shared at times. We have shared so many joys together, but she was always there to listen to me whine about others as well.

I keep waiting for her to call and say "Hey Buddy, what's going on?".......I miss her and love her. You have a lot to be proud of in having her for your Mom and Nana. She loved you more than she loved anything.

Bruce and I will continue seeing her in the roses......and will keep all of you in our prayers and thoughts. Please know how much we love KT and you.

I am so sad to learn of Kathy's passing. Kathy and Nancy were my first clients when I moved to Modesto in 1981. I loved doing their hair and watching Nancy grow up and have her own family. Kathy was a proud mom and grandma. Kathy was a hard worker and was full of life. We really had alot of laughs over the years. I loved her wit and sense of humor............I loved her.................... I had not seen Kathy in the last couple of years and ran into her at the doctors about a year ago. It was obvious she was having health issues. And now, I sit here crying and ashamed of myself for not reaching out to her. I am so sorry. Thanks to Sharon and Bruce Baldwin she told me about your friendship and appriciated you so much. And now...I'm so sorry Nancy....I loved your mom
