Mary Reed Obituary

MARY LETITIA TOBY'' CHADDICK REED MAR 24, 1919 - DEC 7, 2010 Mary Letitia Toby'' Chaddick Reed passed away peacefully on December 7, 2010 in Modesto, California, after a brief illness. Toby was born in Plano, Texas, to Hugh and Ruby Gregory Chaddick. On both sides, her family were original Plano settlers, and Toby always considered Plano her true home. Toby lived in Houston, Texas for 40 years, where she attended the Methodist Church and raised her only son, James. She was vivacious and beautiful; she never knew a stranger. Always a Texan at heart, she loved country music, square dancing, and the Dallas Cowboys; she also loved to fish and garden and write letters. She made the best banana cream pie and she was always, always singing. Toby loved nothing more than family, and had lived in Modesto for 17 years to be near James and his family. She was a wonderful grandmother and a devoted mother. Her love of life and her laughter will be sorely missed. Mary is survived by her son, James Bruce Reed II, daughter-in-law Christina Ann Patton Reed, and grandson James Bruce ''Trey'' Reed III (Tyler Winterholler), all of Modesto, California, and granddaughter Kimberlee Michele Reed White (Jonathan White), of Sonora, California. She is also survived by her sister Lillian Mae Chaddick Meeks (Fred Meeks), of Colorado, sister-in-law Dorothy Chaddick, of Plano, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and two brothers. She was the widow of James Bruce Reed, Lawrence Buster'' Bailey, and Jasper Jack'' Haley. Visitation will be at Dicky Ted Funeral Home, 2128 18th Street, Plano, Texas, Thursday, December 16, at 10:00 am, with funeral service to follow at 11:00 am. Donations in remembrance of Mary may be made to Alexander Cohen Hospice House (209)578-6380, hospice heart.org, or to Gallo Center for the Arts (209)338-5031, galloarts.org. www.modbee.com/obituaries
