Mary Costa Obituary

MARY S. COSTA FEB 1924 ~ NOV 2010 On November 3rd, Mary S. Costa, at home with family and friends at her bedside, peacefully passed away. Mary was born in Tulare, CA in 1924 to Camillo and Rosalina Sousa. She was preceded in death by her son Joe and her husband of fifty years, Evo. She is survived by her children Loretta Menshew (Al), Manuel Costa, Marlene Amesquita (David) and Dianne Thornberry. She is also survived by four grandsons, David Amesquita, Jr., Evo Costa, Jacob Thornberry, Joey Costa and one granddaughter, Kayla Thornberry. She leaves one sister Isaltina Ribeiro. Mary went to the Azores when she was five years old and returned to the United States at age 25 with husband Evo where they were in the dairy business until they retired in 1991 and moved to Turlock sixteen years ago. She very much enjoyed retirement and the time to travel and raise a garden and flowers at her new home in Turlock. Mary always kept her sense of humor and enjoyed a joke on herself or someone else. She had that right up until the last few days of her life. Mary Costa lived a long, productive life and will be missed by all who knew her. However, the wonderful memories of her will always be with us. Her values of honesty and hard work live on in her children and grandchildren, so she is not really gone. A viewing will be held at Allen Mortuary in Turlock on Friday, November 12, from 11am with a Rosary at 7:00pm. Mass will be on Saturday, November 13, 11:00 am at All Saints Catholic Church, Turlock. Remembrances, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Hospice of Emanuel Hospital, 825 Delbon Ave., Turlock, CA 95382.
