Deanne and Rex met in Southern California where they dated and were married in 1980. In 1982, they moved to Olympia, Washington where they had their two daughters, Kate and Kylie. In 1993, they moved to Oakdale, California where Rex spent the last 17 years of his life working on his father-in-law's heifer ranch, Schaafsma Dairy. At the age of 17, Rex served in the army for three years while stationed at Schoefield Barracks in Honolulu, Hawaii. He then worked as a logger near Eureka, California. After he suffered from a collapsed lung at the age of 21, he hitchhiked home to Southern California. He held a variety of different jobs in Southern California in factories, construction, and pest control. After his move to Olympia with Deanne, Rex worked for pest control again, and then received his CDL license to work for the state as a recycling truck driver. After his daughters were both born, he was offered a job at Schaafsma Dairy in Oakdale, California. Rex enjoyed hiking, camping, kayaking, windsurfing, being outdoors, going to concerts, videography, but his greatest passion was playing the electric guitar. Rex is remembered by his loved ones for his kind heart, generosity towards animals, great sense of humor, and his love for his family. In lieu of sending flowers, his family asks that friends and family make donations to the National Kidney Foundation. Rex received dialysis treatment for his kidney for one year before receiving a transplant in August 2001. There will be a Celebration of Life service at the Oakdale Memorial Chapel on December 11th at 1:00 p.m. www.modbee.com/obituaries

Deanna,Kate,and Kylie,
Through the years I've had Rex as one of my customers. I always saw him on Wednesdays and we would talk about many different things. I enjoyed listening to what he had to say.He spoke alot about his family, and all the many different places he has been to. I'll miss seeing you...

Deanna, Kate, and Kylie,
You are in our thoughts and prayers today. Rex was a wonderful man. Bruce enjoyed the time they played music together at your house. He had a wonderful sense of humor. We wish we could have done it more often.
