Val Chao Wu

Val Chao Wu died peacefully her home at the age of 94. She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Buczacki of Virginia; granddaughter, Viola Chang of Monterey and great-grandchildren, Nadia Woo, Owen Yu and Cecilia Yu. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. C.K. Wu.
Val was born in China to Mr. Chen Shimei and Ms. Xie Huizhong. She graduated from Yale Drama School in 1948 with a degree in Drama. She returned to China in 1949 to work at the Beijing Theatre. After retiring from the theatre in 1981, Val moved to Monterey and began working at MIIS and DLI as a language instructor. She married her colleague, Dr. Wu, in 1985.
Val was an accomplished stage actor and language instructor. She was a generous and dedicated individual who loved the arts and was passionate about the theatre.
Funeral services will be on January 18 at 2:00 pm at The Little Chapel by-the-Sea in Pacific Grove. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Val's life. Condolences can be sent to www.thepaulmortuary.com. The family would like to thank Charlene Ye, Silvina Arce and Helen Kessler for their care and dedication.

To the family and friends of Mrs. Wu: I was so sad to see the Obituary for Mrs. Wu. She was a remarkable person that led a remarkable life. She was a very caring person and I know how fond she was of her granddaughter Viola Chang.
