Miller Williams Obituary

Miller G. Williams, Jr., of Mountain Brook, died at home on June 4, 2013 after a brief illness. Miller was born in Montgomery, AL on February 1, 1934 to Mr. and Mrs. Miller Grieve Williams, Sr. (Pattie Pogue).

Miller grew up in Montgomery and graduated from Sidney Lanier in 1952, and then from Auburn University in 1956. He was an avid golfer. Miller and his twin brother, Pat, were on the Lanier team winning the State High School Golf Championship in 1952. He was on Auburn's golf team for several years and enjoyed golf for many years at the Country Club of Birmingham.

After graduating from Auburn University, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, he entered the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant in the Engineering Corps. He was on active duty in Heidelberg, Germany for two years, served in the U. S. Army Reserves, and the Alabama National Guard, retiring as Lt. Colonel.

In 1956, Miller married the former Marjorie Searcy, in Montgomery, AL and they celebrated their 56th anniversary on October 21, 2012. After the couple returned from Germany, they moved to Birmingham in 1959. Miller worked first for U.S Pipe Co., then formed a highway subcontracting company before entering the insurance business with the Paul Revere Insurance Company, later bought out by Unum. He remained in the insurance industry as an independent contractor after retirement from Paul Revere until his death.

Miller was predeceased by his parents and his twin brother, Pat Thomas Williams of Montgomery. He is survived by his wife, Margie; his daughter, Meridith Peeples (Sam III); sons, Miller G. Williams, III (Alan Evins), Carey Phillips Williams (Kay Taylor), grandsons Miller G. Williams IV, Evins Alan Williams, Carey Phillips Williams, Jr. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Olivia Williams; nephews, Pat Thomas Williams, Jr. (McClellan), Britt Searcy Booth (Kay), and Robert Kennedy Booth, and niece, Tyler Williams Dunklin (James Hilliard).

Visitation will be at Brookwood Baptist Church, 3449 Overton Road, Birmingham, AL 35223, Friday June 7th, 5pm - 7pm. Memorial Service at Brookwood Baptist Church, Saturday June 8th. Visitation from 1pm-2pm, service at 2pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity or Brookwood Baptist Church.
