Benjamin Cake Obituary

Benjamin F. Cake 97 of Blue Bell, formerly of Rydal, died March 24, 2013 at Normandy Farms Estates. He was the beloved husband of the late Ruth Cake. He was born in Glenside, PA to the late Benjamin F. and Julia (Burns) Cake, Sr. Ben was a graduate of Cheltenham High School and attended Franklin & Marshall College. A Lieutenant in the US Navy, he earned his wings at Pensacola, FL and was a pilot in World War II. Ben served as Vice President of the Printing and Lithograph Division at Diamond International Corporation for over 30 years. An avid golfer throughout his lifetime, Ben was a long-time member of Manufacturer's Golf and Country Club. A special trip with Jim and his family was playing golf at St. Andrews, Scotland. He also treasured his many visits to Kansas City to spend time with his daughter Lynn and her family and to Portland to visit his son Mark. In his final years, his son Richard was able to devote much time to his care. During the years of raising his family, he was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Church. In later years, he was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church. His wife Ruth was the love of his life and together they shared great joy in raising their four children. They spent many happy summers vacationing in Stone Harbor and Avalon, NJ. His family and friends described him as a man of great faith and high integrity. His resilience and eternal optimism are part of the legacy he has left his family and all who knew him. He was a man who took a personal interest in every person he met, and one of his special attributes was imparting life lessons. Ben is survived by his children Jim Cake (Susan), Lynn Cake Dahl (Douglas), Richard Cake (Barbara), Mark Cake (Lonnie), his five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren as well as a niece Rosemary (Alan). He was pre-deceased by all of his siblings. A Mass of Christian burial was held March 27 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, followed by interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Donations in his name can be made to his Church at 259 Forest Ave., Ambler, PA 19002. Condolences may be made at www.ciavarellifuneralhomes.com.

Your Dad will be receiving all the blessings he deserves and reuniting with his loved ones. He was a wonderful, loving man and I know you will miss him. The beauty of Christianity is that you will be together one day again. Thanks be to God. Love you, Wanda and Jerry

We can never feel comfortable with loosing our loved ones. No matter the age, it just does not feel right. Almighty God assures us though, that putting up with this kind of loss will soon be a thing of the past. In His word he says,"He (God) will swallow up death forever." Be assured that this will come through for those of us who for so long have had to endure the pain of loosing our loved ones to death. Please accept my deepest condolence.
