In Montreal on Sunday, April 7, 2013, Jean Charton passed away at the age of 89. He was the son of Pierre Charton and Alice Béïque. He was a graduate of engineering from McGill University. In 1954, he took over the reins of Herdt & Charton, an import business founded by his father in 1921. In 1988, in association with his daughter Caroline and the Hobbs family, he co-founded Charton-Hobbs, which became one of the main wines & spirits agencies in Canada. He leaves his wife Huguette Lafleur, his daughter Caroline Charton, his grandchildren Nicolas and Alexandra Cossette and their father Sylvain Cossette (Josée Comtois), his two sisters Jacqueline Charton (Jean Duhart) and Maryelle Charton (the late Jean Gaudreau), his two sisters-in-law Ruth Lafleur (Camille Grenier) and Louise Lafleur (Dr. Gilles Bertrand), as well as many nieces and nephews. We would like to thank for their support his niece Maryse Bertrand and William Brock, his nephew François Bertrand and Nathalie Avon, his business partner Duncan Hobbs, and his long-time close associates Huong Vu and Danielle Barrette. We would also like to thank the personnel at Chateau Westmount, particularly Madame Louise Jobin, for the extraordinary quality of their care, their devotion and their compassion. The family will receive condolences on Thursday, April 11 between 5.00 p.m. and 9.00 p.m., and on Friday, April 12 between 4.00 p.m. and 9.00 p.m. at
