Philip BOBROW Obituary

Published by Monteal Gazette on Mar. 12, 2016.
BOBROW, Philip David
Architect, B.Arch (McGill), M.Arch (Yale) OAQ, FRAIC
October 25, 1936 – March 11, 2016
A well-respected Montreal Architect, Philip David Bobrow died suddenly and peacefully, from viral pneumonia complications at 1:15 a.m. on Friday, March 11, 2016, at the age of seventy-nine. Known for his outspoken disgust at the poorly designed and constructed Olympic Stadium, he was very proud of his achievements in his design/build concepts in Hospital work. Most notably, the Montreal Neurological Institute, Jewish General Hospital wing and Phase 1 of Nun's Island. He passed away surrounded by his children, in a very clean, modern and symmetrically designed Resuscitation room at the Jewish General Hospital. Beloved husband of forty-eight years to Barbara (née Creighton) who was always there for him throughout the last five years in his battle with Alzheimer's disease. Loving and caring father to Stuart (Shelley), Kory (Marie- Josée), and Lissa (Adrian), he taught them a love of food and sharing it with those he loved as long as they were warned to "watch out for bones" when eating fish. He was a proud grandfather to Emma, Joshua, Delilah, Hope and Nikolas, who all inherited his love of capers, pickles and playing the harmonica. He leaves behind his sister, Gloria and his nephews, Barry and Jason, and their families who sought to smartly live their lives in warmer climes. He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews, family and friends. The family wishes to thank the Alzheimer's Society, Alzheimer Groupe Inc. and Evasion for their care and support over the past few years, and the amazing staff at the Jewish General, especially Mitchell Denbow. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean- Talon St. W., on Sunday, March 13 at 1:00 p.m. (remember Daylight Savings time!). Burial at the Beit Abraham Congregation Section, Kehal Israel Cemetery, 4189 boul. des Sources, D.D.O. Shiva to take place at 5155 Notre-Dame-de-Grâce Ave., Montreal. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, 1-800-616-8816.

It is with sorrow that I learned of Phil's passing today.

in 1985, shortly after graduating from McGill, I began working for Bobrow Architects where I remained for nearly ten years. I could not have asked for a better mentor, teacher and boss than Phil, to set the foundation for me as a young professional.

My sympathies to his family.

Dear Barbara,
I was saddened to learn today of Phil's passing. It has been 30 years now since I left the Bobrow/Fieldman Partnership and moved to New York City, and it is poignant that the last project on which Phil and I collaborated was the Jewish General Hospital, an environment in which the finest comfort was given to him, deservedly.

With respect,
Michael

Sad that he has left us. Enjoyed our time on the Planning Advisory Committee of Westmount. Great intellect and professionalism.

My sincerest sympathies to the family. I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Bobrow during a lab renovation project at the old Shriners Hospital in Montreal and truly respected his knowledge and dedication.
May he rest in peace.

It is with sadness to learn Phil has left us. I met him over sixty years and although have not been in contact for many years his name was always mentioned with mutual in Montreal with the old friends.

Live out of town, and haven't seen Phil in years, but he is never far from my mind.
We go back to a different time, one might almost say, a different age.
Seems like yesterday we took our kids to the circus together.
My sincere condolences to the family, Barb, and the boys.
They wouldn't remember, but I will never forget.

Bar.

Dear Mrs. Borrow, I remember well you and your husband's visits to Restaurant La Transition. He was not only a very intelligent person but also kind and compassionate. As time goes by, I wish for you that the memories you hold will be of the happier times. Thinking of you and may he rest in peace. Sincerely Maria.
