Adelyn May Kennedy

1931 - 2016

Adelyn May Kennedy (nee: Reed), was born in Greenville, Ohio on June 27, 1931, to Mary Ann Calderwood Reed and William Henry Reed. She passed on December 20, 2016. Adelyn graduated from Bowling Green State University and earned her Master's in Early Childhood Education from Baldwin Wallace College. She made her home in Lorain for the past sixty years and was married to Eugene A. Kennedy for forty-nine years until his passing on June 10, 2007. Mrs. Kennedy taught in the Lorain City School district before she devoted herself to raising her children, William A. Kennedy, Kathryn L. Kennedy and Cynthia A. Kennedy Strahan (Michael). Her home was a happy gathering place for many of the neighborhood children.
Mrs. Kennedy taught kindergarten at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Amherst prior to teaching kindergarten for twenty-five years for Amherst Exempted Village Schools. After retiring, Adelyn traveled throughout the United States and Canada with her husband. She enjoyed traveling with her sister, Mary Louise Menker, to Russia and China and also loved their marathon telephone conversations. Adelyn's creativity and joy were channeled into gardening, quilting, knitting, sewing, making miniature furniture and stained glass. She led her family with grace; instilling strong values and the importance of helping others.
Adelyn was a member of the Nathan Perry Chapter, Lorain, OH, Daughters of the American Revolution.
She is survived by her three children, her sister, her brother John W. Reed and three grandchildren, Tyler M. Kennedy, Kathryn L. Strahan and Madelyn G. Strahan.
We will dearly miss the beautiful, loving soul we were most blessed to have as a mother and grandmother.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Greenville Cemetery 200 West St., Greenville, Ohio 45331.
