NORWALK – Robert "Bob" G. Spoerr, 87, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Friday afternoon at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, Ohio.
He was born December 14, 1923 in Norwalk to the late Carl and Christina (Neese) Spoerr. He graduated from Norwalk High School in 1941. In 1942 he enlisted in the Naval Air Corp where he served as a Naval Aviator in WWII. He was honorably discharged due to illness in 1944. Upon discharge from the Naval Air Corp he enrolled at Bowling Green State University graduating in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. While attending BGSU he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.
After graduation he had a very successful career as a Salesman working for E. Bigelow Corp, Hancock Brick and Tile, retiring in 1983 from Advance Drainage Systems. During his career among many accomplishments in 1980 he earned the Million Dollar Sales Award and was named Salesman Of The Year by Advance Drainage Systems.
His love of aviation inspired by his career in the Naval Air Corp continued though out his life. He owned a Piper Cub CJ3 and a Fairchild which he dearly loved to fly. He was a very diverse man enjoying a variety of interests and hobbies including model plane building, stained glass work, card playing, travel, gardening, boating and fishing. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 711 and the VFW Post 2743. To say the least he enjoyed life to the fullest.
He is survived by a step-daughter, Lee Davis of Columbus; step-sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Kathleen Cook of Blair, NE and Brian and Allison Cook of Norwalk; nine step-grandchildren, twelve step-great grandchildren, a sister Lucille Grimmer of Norwalk, a brother-in-law, Max McCrillis of Copley, OH, a niece Nancy (Bill) Pedley of Webster Grove, MO, a nephew Richard (Sindy) Spoerr of Swanee, TN, various great nieces and nephews, his dog Sweet Pea and many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Christina Spoerr, his brother, Edward Spoerr, his wife, Pauline Spoerr, his sister, Marian McCrillis and his niece, Dianna Sweet.
Calling hours will be Friday, June 24, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk. Friends may also call, Saturday, June 25, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12 Noon at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 243 Benedict Ave., Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Fred Wiechers will officiate.
