Joe Haviland Obituary

Joe Dell Haviland, age 65, of Pittsburg, KS, passed away Thursday April 3, 2014 at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita, KS. Joe was born the son of Carl and Helen (Head) Haviland on May 13, 1948 in Erie, KS.
He graduated from Thayer High School and then entered the Army and served two years in Vietnam. After he returned home, Joe married Nancy Steward in July of 1971, and to this union a daughter was born. They later divorced.
Joe worked as a welder for MEC Company in Neodesha, KS.
He is survived by his daughter; Joan Hobbs of Pittsburg; brothers, Leon Haviland and wife Dorothy of Parsons, KS, Bob Haviland of Wichita, KS, Fred Haviland of Erie, KS, Frank Haviland of Thayer, KS; grandchildren, Romon Barber, Austin Hobbs, Andrew Hobbs, Sara Buckley; 3 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Helen; brother, Charles Haviland; sisters, Cathy Haviland, and Janet Kidwell; and a nephew, Larry Landers.
Visitation will be held Wednesday April 9, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home Gibson Chapel, 16 N. Forest, Chanute, KS.
Graveside Services will be held Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Shaw Cemetery in Shaw, KS. Family suggests memorials to the family to assist in funeral expenses or to Family First Inc. (A family service agency) and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
Countryside Funeral Home Gibson Chapel is in charge of arrangements. On-line condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.
