Barbara Ann Zach Loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother

Barbara, 77, of East Brunswick, passed away peacefully at home on October 13th after 3 months of hospice care. She was surrounded by the love of her family and the Grace of God.

Born January 13th, 1939 to Ethel and Hugh Beattie in South Amboy, NJ, sister to Dr. Alfred Beattie, wife Ruth, son Mac and William Beattie and wife Anna.

Barbara graduated Sayreville High School in 1956 and then Newark State College, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education in 1960 and a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education in 1962 with a letter of commendation.

Barbara taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades at Emma L. Arleth Elementary School in Sayreville, NJ for 6 years. She taught for an additional 21 years at South Amboy Elementary School and was named teacher of the year in 1993-94.

Barbara married Alvin L. Zach, Jr. on September 29th 1962. They have three children: Lynda Zach Freda and husband Paul of Avenel, NJ, Donna Zach Spendley and husband Joe of Cary, NC and Robert Zach and wife Melissa of Downingtown, PA.

She enjoyed gardening, music, crafts, cake decorating, themed summer parties with friends, teddy bears, traveling, watching her grandchildren's sporting events, ballet recitals, and school plays. Her grandchildren are Robert Zach, Jr., Cameron Zach, Emily Zach, Zach Spendley, and Leah Spendley.

Barbara taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir, and was a member of the East Brunswick Women's Club. She was past Matron (1970) for Phila Chapter 216 OES of South River, NJ. She was also a Girl Scout Brownie leader, and mother and grandmother to 4 Eagle Scouts and a Girl Scout Silver Award recipient.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and aides at the Reformed Church Home of Old Bridge, NJ the RCCA of East Brunswick, NJ, especially Dr. Ronnen, and the nurses and aides of Seasons Hospice Care, especially Carol.

The visitation will be held on Sunday, October 16th, from 4-8pm at Rezem Funeral Home, 457 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick. The funeral service will take place Monday, October 17th, at 10:30am at The First Presbyterian Church of Sayreville, 172 Main Street, Sayreville. Burial will follow at Washington Monumental Cemetery in South River.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice in Barbara's name.
