Herbert T. Green

AGE: 87 • Plainfield

Herbert T. Green, 87, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2012 at his home in Planfield. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he resided in Plainfield since 1957. Mr. Green was a 1948 graduate of the US Naval Academy and a veteran of World War II. After being discharged from the Navy, he started his career as the sports director for Channel 13. He continued his career in television as general manager of Channel 13 and later, Channel 47. He was the founder and director of SchoolWatch and the Public Education Institute. He had a longtime affiliation with Rutgers University. He retired as the Director of Public Education Institute in 2011. He was active in community affairs in Plainfield most of his life, having served two terms on the Plainfield Board of Education. He was the first man to serve as President of the Plainfield League of Woman Voters, an office he held again 30 years later. He was PTA President at several Plainfield Schools and a volunteer with Resident Readers at Plainfield elementary schools.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Braverman Green; two sons, Charles M. Green and Joseph B. Green (and his wife, Janice); five grandchildren, Joshua, Matthew, Jennifer, Brian and Julianne; and his nephew, Daniel.

Private arrangements are by Memorial Funeral Home in Fanwood. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Those who wish may make memorial donations to the Plainfield Area Humane Society or the educational organization of the donor's choosing. Margie-
After all these years, I finally located you, and at a very sad moment. My interactions with Herb were few, but I remember him as wonderful man. I'm grateful that you two had a lifetime together.
This wasn't supposed to be a note of condolence, but catching up after a hiatus of about 45 years.
