Alfred Stembridge Obituary
Plainfield - Alfred "Brother Al" Stembridge, 62, departed this life Tues. Dec. 5, 2017 in JFK Hartwyck at Cedar Brook in Plainfield. Born in Cordele, GA, he resided in Jersey City 12 years before moving to Plainfield 50 years ago. He was a 1974 graduate of Plainfield High School and was the owner of Al's Unisex Barber Shop in Plainfield.
Growing up he was a boxer at the South Second Street Youth Center in Plainfield where he received the Golden Glove Award. Brother Al was known for his community service by hosting an annual cookout at Mathewson Playground and Green Brook Park.
He is predeceased by his wife Donna Stembridge; his father Albert Stembridge, Sr.; two brothers Albert, Jr. and James Stembridge; his maternal grandmother Rose Lee Graham; paternal grandparents Freamon and Wylene Stembridge.
Surviving are 5 daughters Aisha L. "Mecoa" Williams, Alnis "Chynah" Stembridge (Duane Quarles), Samayia L. Stembridge, Kaelyn Bethea, Na'Riyha and Kyla Stembridge; 3 sons Shariff Nelson (Tamika), Hassan Stuckey (Jessica) and Brother Akbar R. Stembridge; 12 grandchildren; his mother Clara Stembridge; 1 sister Laguila Stembridge; 2 brothers Allen "Sonny" and Freeman "Benny" Stembridge and a sister in law Adrian "Cookie" Stembridge.
Funeral Mon. 12 noon in Calvary Baptist Church, 324 Monroe Ave., Plainfield preceded by viewing at 9am. Interment, Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Arrangements by Brown's Funeral Home. www.brownsfuneralhome.net.

My deepest condolences to the family. I never met Cuz Brother Al but only met with him on social media. He messaged me and told me whom he was and how he was related to my Dad Phillip "Bucket" Stembridge. I have heard great things about him and regret that I never got a chance to meet him. I am praying for the family. May God hold and keep you all.
