Carol Burgess Lackland, age 82, died at Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains on Saturday January 28, 2017. Born February 21, 1934 in Plainfield, NJ. After graduating from Plainfield High School, Carol attended Centenary College in Hackettstown NJ on a music scholarship. Carol started piano lessons at 3 and a half years old and performed as a concert pianist at many local recital halls, the most prestigious being Town Hall in NYC in 1954. After graduating from Centenary, she worked at CBS and NBC on the production staff of many popular shows. On September 14, 1957, she married David Lackland and they lived in Watchung, NJ all of their married life. They enjoyed a loving life together and enjoyed playing duets; Dave on violin, Carol on piano, the theater, concerts, traveling much of the world, playing golf, tennis and bridge and spending time with good friends throughout the years. The highlight of their lives were their two children who have become happy and successful adults. Carol is the former President of the Plainfield Junior Women's Club, former President of the Women's Auxiliary of Hospitals, served on the board of United Family and Children's Society, was a member of the Valley Players of Watchung and a current member of the President's Circle of Centenary College. Carol and David were members of the Plainfield Country Club and Seaview Country Club and were members of the Loveladies Tennis Club for over 30 years. Carol will be especially remembered for her philanthropic attributes and her desire to "give back". She was instrumental in funding, designing and building The David & Carol Lackland Center at Centenary College. She is predeceased by her loving husband David in 2015. Carol is survived by a son David J. Lackland; daughter Jennifer Lackland, a daughter-in-law Tessa Alden Lackland, a grandson Indy Lackland, sister-in-law Connie Burgess Scher, a brother -in-law Fred Lackland, sister-in-law Donna Lackland. She is also survived by 3 nephews and 1 niece. A memorial gathering will be held at Higgins Home for Funerals 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung NJ on Tuesday January 31 2017 from 10 am to 12 pm followed by a funeral service at 12pm. The interment is private.
