ALFRED ALLDIS SCHMIDT
AGE: 91 FORMERLY OF WATCHUNG
Alfred Alldis Schmidt, 91, died on Oct. 7, 2010. Born in Richmond Hill, NY, he lived in Morehead City and Pine Knoll Shores, NC and Watchung, NJ before moving to San Jose, CA. He served in the US Army as a 1st Lieutenant, saw active duty in European Theater during WWII (landed on Omaha Beach during the Battle of Normandy), in the US Army Reserve afterward and active duty in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of Hofstra University. He retired after 25 years as Chief Building Inspector and Zoning Official for the City of Plainfield, NJ. He was a recipient of the 1978 Albert H. Baum Award, an honor presented annually by Building Officials and Code Administrators (BOCA) International to the individual considered to have made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of the building code administration and enforcement profession. He was chairman of the Executive Committee of the Building Officials Association of NJ. He was president of the Eastern States Building Officials Federation, president of the New Jersey Building Officials Association, Coadjutant instructor for Rutgers, The State University of NJ.
Beloved husband of Nancy DeMarco Schmidt of 51 years; Devoted father of Lisa M. Schmidt and Alfred G. Schmidt; Grandfather of Victoria A. Schmidt and Michael Schmidt.
Funeral will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation (www.parkinson.org).
