AGE: 102 • Port Saint Lucie, FL
Passed away on October 6, 2017, in Port Saint Lucie, Florida at the age of 102. Born on March 30, 1915, in New York City.
He graduated from La Salle Military Academy, Columbia University and New York Medical School. He did his Internship and Residency at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield, NJ.He practiced as an Ob/Gyn physician for a few years, then switched to general surgery. He was Chief of Surgery at Muhlenberg Hospital for many years and was known for his outstanding teaching methods.
He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Lorraine Cannis, a daughter, Diane Cannis, and all of his siblings.
Surviving are 5 children, Lynne Glasgow of Toms River, NJ, Jay Cannis (Donna) of Spring Hill, Fl, Robert Cannis (Barbara) of Toms River, NJ, Susan Cannis of Laural Springs, NJ, and a step-daughter, Bonnie Jenks (Tom) of Rock Hill, SC. He had 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

I knew Dr. John P Cannis for 18 years and loved him dearly. He was smart, sweet, funny, wise, generous and loving. He was always a gentleman. He loved animals and our dog Rusty was very fond of him also. He loved to feed the birds in Jensen Beach and always enjoyed a jelly filled donut and a hot cup of coffee.... I have so many good memories of our times together and will never forget him. Rest in peace Doc.......Karen E. Scott aka Katherine xo

God Bless Dr John! He was a faithful attendee at Catholic Rosary and Communion Services at Brookdale where I've had the pleasure to volunteer for the past 2 years.He will be missed!
