Samuel J. Salvaggio

AGE: 89 • Carteret

Samuel J. "Sammy" Salvaggio, 89 of Carteret passed away Friday Dec 16th at the JFK Medical Center, Edison surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Pittstown, Pennsylvania until joining the service, he has lived in Carteret for the past sixty seven years where they raised their family. Sam was a self-employed home builder for many years. He was a member of the Divine Mercy Parish Holy Family R.C. Church in Carteret. Sam served his country during World War II with the United States Army receiving numerous battle stars and citations during the European Campaign. He enjoyed bowling and playing golf with his son, brother in law and best friend Lou. Sam was the most kind and loving man there could be. Anyone that met him loved him.

Sam is predeceased by his daughter Christine Salvaggio-Nettles, his siblings Philip, Peter, Jack and Rosalie. He leaves behind his loving wife of sixty four years Nina (Chiazza) Salvaggio, a son Peter Salvaggio and his wife Lori, grandchildren Lauren Salvaggio-Jaques and her husband Parker, Victoria Salvaggio and her fiancé Joseph Dellaragione, Michael Nettles, Peter Nettles, brother in law Thomas Chiazza and his wife Rosemarie, his nephews Louis and his wife Joann, Edward Toth and his wife Ellen, many other nieces nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday 9:00 am from the Chubenko Funeral Home 625 Port Reading Ave., Port Reading followed by a 9:30 am Mass of Christian Burial from the Divine Mercy Parish at Holy Family R.C. Church Carteret with entombment to follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visitation will be Monday 2 pm to 4 pm to 7 pm to 9 pm at the funeral home.
