SHIRLEY MANFREDI
AGE: 80 BOUND BROOK
Shirley Manfredi passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at Hunterdon Medical Center, Flemington. She was surrounded by her husband of 60 years, Albert Manfredi of Flemington and daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie Jean [Manfredi] and Andrew Lobby of Branchburg. Born July 7. 1928, in Somerville, Shirley was the daughter of the late LeRoy and Helen Sutton Hann of Finderne. She was raised in the Finderne section of Bridgewater. She attended local schools and graduated from Somerville High School, Class of 1947. She was an executive secretary for American Cyanamid, and later for the Bound Brook Board of Education as a school secretary for both Lafayette and LaMonte Schools. Shirley worked on Charitable fundraisers for Deborah Hospital. She was elected Queen Mother of the Red Hat Society at the Hunterdon care center where she resided. She was also on the executive board helping to improve the quality of life for her fellow residents as well as her charitable fund-raising work. She was a member of the "Golden Girls."
She was predeceased by her daughter, Beth-Ann Manfredi; her two uncles, Arthur E. Sutton, Harry W. Sutton; her Aunt Katherine Hann Rhodes, and cousin Russell Hann. Surviving are her husband, Albert Manfredi; her daughter Bonnie and son-in-law Andrew Lobby of Branchburg; Her aunt Stella Bohay Sutton of South Bound Brook; her godson Harry D. Sutton of South Bound Brook; her cousins, Diane Sutton Lopa and husband Robert of Somerset, Barbara (the late Robert) Sutton) of Neshanic Station, Nancy Greaves Zabreski of Fla., Bradford Sutton of Alabama, Ann-Marie Romano Conklin and husband Robert of Easton, Pa., and their families.
Shirley was remembered as loving and caring to the faculty and students, and was always there to listen to problems and be appreciated as a second mother to the students. The words "an ice pack in one hand and a band aid in the other" seem to be a way used by her colleagues to describe her presence at school. As a warm, loving person, she was always there with a hug and a welcome ear for her students and their problems. The faculty remembers her as always being ready to lend a hand wherever she was needed. Her family remembers her as an animal lover and a great storyteller. She touched everyone who knew her by her compassion and sense of humor.
Family and friends may gather 9:30 A.M. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009 at Hagan Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Avenue, Bound Brook, for a 10:00 A.M. funeral service at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Bound Brook. Friends will be received at the funeral home Monday, 2:00 4:00 and 7:009:00 P.M. Interment will be at Bound Brook Cemetery.
