Arthur W. Lederer, Jr.

AGE: 95 • North Plainfield

Arthur W. Lederer, Jr., 95, died Monday, September 10, 2012, at Overlook Hospital in Summit. Born in Plainfield, he was a lifelong resident of North Plainfield. He was pre deceased by his parents, Bertha and Arthur Lederer Sr. After attending Rutgers University, Art joined the US Army and served in the South Pacific under the 38th Div. of the Adjutant General Corps during World War II. He was employed as an insurance underwriter with the Insurance Co. of North America for many years before retiring. Art was a lifetime member of Trinity Reformed Church in North Plainfield, where he served as Deacon, Elder and Clerk of the Consistory. He was an active volunteer in the local community, and was Past Lieutenant Commander with the Watchung Power Squadron, the former president of the Watchung Speaker's Club and as Chairman of the American Red Cross in the North Plainfield area. Art was also an animal lover and supported many animal charities throughout the years.

He is survived by his wife, Doris "Betty"; his niece, Judith Hart; and three nephews, Coleman Feller, Edwin Moke, III and John Moke.

Services will be held at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Ave., Fanwood, on Saturday at 11 A.M. Interment with military honors will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains. Visitation will be Friday afternoon from 4 PM to 7 PM. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice. For additional information or to sign the guestbook, visit www.fanwoodmemorial.com.
