Robert E. Jost Sr.

Robert E. Jost Sr., 79, of Wall, New Jersey, passed away suddenly surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at his home. Born in Bayshore, Long Island, Bob moved to West Belmar and graduated early from Asbury Park High School in order to help run the family business, Jost Garage Collision Repair, established in 1923.

He married his childhood sweetheart, Suzanne Maddocks of West Belmar, Wall. Bob and Suzanne were married nearly 60 years. His never-ending passion for life, family, friends and community was evident on a daily basis. Robert sponsored North Wall Little League and Wall Soccer Club teams for more than 40 years, was a longtime supporter of the Annual Wall Police Coaster Derby, and for many years donated a new Pontiac firebird to the Wall Township Police Department to be used for the D.A.R.E. Program.

It was also evident annually at Christmas time by the traffic jam passing by the handmade decorations displayed on his front lawn of his home on Marconi Rd. He was a member of The Belmar Fishing Club, and the club's Board of Governors, Belmar, the Manasquan River Golf and Country Club, member since 1989.

He proudly volunteered his time since 1958 as a lifetime member of the Wall Fire Company No. 1, where he served as a Chief in 1969 and 1970, and also as the Treasurer. He was honored by the department to be their Firefighter of the Year, and provided 50 years of service ending in 2008. Bob has received numerous recognition awards from the State of NJ Senate and General Assembly for esteemed Citizen of the Garden State, Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders in recognition of Good Citizenship, half-a-century of service, commitment and dedication to the citizens of Monmouth County.

Bob was very philanthropic, and there are many people and organizations that have benefitted from his kindness and generosity. He preferred to keep most of these good deeds anonymous.

He is predeceased by his parents Wesley William Jost Sr., and Virginia Ruth (Holton).

Robert is survived by his devoted wife Suzanne Maddocks Jost, his beloved sons and their spouses: Robert Jost Jr, William and Cindy Jost, Barry Sr. and Chrissy Jost, Bryan and Kristine Jost all of Wall his cherished grandchildren: Amie Jost, Barry Jost Jr, Brittany Jost, Morgan Jost, Maddie Jost, and Molly Jost all of Wall, and his siblings Wesley Jost Jr and Barbara of Surprise, Arizona, Virginia and Vern Geib of Springhill, FL. , Betsy and Fred Clayton Sr of Citrus Springs, FL. and Kathy and Terry Shouse of Inverness, FL. and many nieces nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Monday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm followed by a Funeral Service on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 11:00am at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall. Entombment in Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan.

In lieu of flowers, the Jost family specifically requests donations to be made in Bob's memory to Make-A-Wish New Jersey, 1347 Perrineville Road, Monroe Township, NJ 08831. Envelopes will be provided at the Funeral Home on Monday.
