Phyllis A. Thompson Blocker

AGE: 81 • Somerset

Phyllis A. Thompson Blocker, 81, of Somerset, died on February 24, 2016 in Morris Plains, NJ. She was born in Crossroads, Halifax County, VA and formerly lived in New Brunswick and East Brunswick, NJ. Former member of Second Baptist Church, Metuchen and Sharon Baptist Church, New Brunswick. A member of First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens, Somerset, since 1961, where she served on various ministries as well as former President of C.G. Wooding Nurses Unit. A member and former Worthy Matron of Progressive Chapter #30 Order of Eastern Star in New Brunswick, Khufu Court #118 in Princeton, NJ and Lady Orchard Assembly #44, in Trenton, NJ. A retired License Practical Nurse at Middlesex General Hospital (RWJUH), New Brunswick.

Predeceased by her parents William Wilborn and Ellie Wilborn Slater, first husband, Harry E. Thompson and second husband, Verdrey Blocker. She is survived by three children, Shiela Thompson Ortiz, Harry E. Thompson (Diane) and Charles W. Thompson (Jacqueline), two stepchildren, Sharon Gibson and Catherine Gatson (Duance), her brother, Edward Wilborn, a goddaughter, Karen Ellis Waller, eleven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 5 pm, Friday, March 4, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens, 771 Somerset St., Somerset. Viewing is from 3pm, until the time of service. Entombment will be held at Franklin Memorial Park, No. Brunswick. Arrangements are by Anderson Funeral Service, New Brunswick.
