Louis Harr Obituary

Louis W. Harr, 88, of Carrollton, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home in Jerseyville.

Born on the Guthrie Farm near Wrights on Aug. 16, 1922, he was the son of the late Herbert W. and Vera F. Raffety Harr. He married the love of his life, Theda Kessler, on Aug. 1, 1948, at the White Hall Christian Church.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Bill R. Harr and Louis L. Harr, both of Greenfield; four grandchildren, Matt W. (Danell) Harr of Bloomington, Nicole A. (Brandon) Goodall of Waverly and Leanna Harr and Seth Harr, both of Greenfield; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, John E. Harr.

Louis was a lifelong farmer, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of the Carrollton First Baptist Church, a past member of the diaconate board of the church, a member of the Carrollton American Legion, a past board member of the Hickory Grove Cemetery and served many terms on the board of the Greenfield Farmers' Co-op.

He was an honest, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Graveside memorial rites will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Hickory Grove Cemetery near Wrights. Memorials may be made to the Carrollton First Baptist Church or Hickory Grove Cemetery. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be left online at www.airsman-hires.com.
