Irene B. White

1918 - 2011

Irene B. White, 92, of Pittsfield, passed away Friday morning, May 13, 2011, at Eastside Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Pittsfield.

Irene was born Nov. 10, 1918, a daughter to William D. and Mildred Scott Byars near Mount Vernon. She married Malcolm "Jack" White on Nov. 19, 1938, and he preceded her in death in 1986.

Irene was a member of the Pittsfield United Methodist Church, belonging to the Ruth Fellowship and served as treasurer of the United Methodist Women for several years and was a member of the Twin Rivers Art League.

Irene was a bookkeeper for many years before retiring to Pittsfield in 1980 to be near her family. She had lived in Mount Vernon, Salem and McLeansboro, Detroit, Mich., and Canton, Ohio. She enjoyed watercolor and oil painting as a hobby in her retirement. She also was an enthusiastic bridge player.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Douglas Jack White (Carol) of Pittsfield; daughter, Iris Cotton of Chicago; two grandchildren, Alicia Prell (Douglas) of Chicago and Douglas A. White of Pittsfield; and two great-granddaughters, Zoey and Sarah Beth Prell, both of Chicago. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack in 1986; an infant son, Richard in 1939; two brothers, Bill and George Byars; and two sisters, Clara Green and Winona Drake.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Pittsfield, with the Rev. Tom Wilber officiating. Following the service a lunch will be held at the Orr Hall where the family will meet with friends. Condolences may be sent to the family at info@nieburfh.com.
