Wayne Wilbourn Obituary

Wayne Wilbourn LUBBOCK - Our beloved Wayne Wilbourn went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, Jan. 4, 2010. Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers will host a gathering of friends and family from 6-8 p.m. today, Jan. 7. Memorial services to celebrate his life of 75 years will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 8 at Indiana Avenue Baptist Church. Carroll Wayne was born Feb. 28, 1934, to William and Emma Lee Wilbourn in Duncan, Okla. He graduated from Plainview High School and Wayland Baptist University. Wayne was employed with Atmos, which was formerly Pioneer Natural Gas and Energas. He retired as a regional manager in February 1993 after 26 years of service. On July 2, 1955, he married Naomi Carlton in Clovis, N.M. Wayne was an active member of Indiana Avenue Baptist Church where he served as president of Heaven Bound Sunday School Class. He was a former member of the Tulia Rotary Club and the Plainview Optimist Club. He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Wayne Wilbourn, who died Feb. 22, 2001. Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Naomi; a daughter, Lynne Brown of Euless, Texas; grandchildren, Jerrett Alan Wilbourn and his wife, Lindsay, of Magnolia, Texas, Brant Alan Wilbourn and his fiancé, Ashley, of College Station, Texas, Amanda Lyn Kinney of Stillwater, Okla., Silas Brown and his wife, Kelly, of Wichita Falls, Texas, Tyler Brown of Los Angeles, Calif., Alyson Sloan and her husband, Jared, of Richmond, Texas, and Laci Sowder and her husband, Cody, of Fort Worth, Texas; a great-grandson, Jett Brown of Wichita Falls; sisters, Wilmoth Bellamy of Plainview, Texas, Dorothy Frantz of Guymon, Okla., Lois Rice of Canyon, Texas, and Neva Jo Kampfer and her husband, Gary, of Tyler, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials are suggested to the Great Investment at Indiana Avenue Baptist Church, 8315 Indiana Ave., Lubbock, TX 79423 or Hospice of Lubbock, 1102 Slide Road, Suite #3, Lubbock, TX 79416. Naomi: I am Ross's sister. I am sadden to hear about Wayne's death. I know this is a difficult time for you and your family. Like Ross, I still miss Jerry. He was like another brother for me-- pestering me like Ross did. But, he always looked out for me, too. He was a special man, as was his father. I pray that God will comfort you in the days ahead.

Naomi, you and Wayne were always like 2nd parents to me growing up. I still miss Jerry today and think about him often. I was saddened to see Wayne has passed away as well. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Lynne and all those grand kids. God Bless your family in this time of sorrow.
