Just saw this....my condolences to his family. I work for John at Software AG in Reston, VA in the 1980's. We had a superb working relationship, he was like a father to me. We hit it off immediately. He was very proud of his family. He was one of the finest individuals I have ever work for and with, in my own career. Every day was a learning experience. I cannot express how passionate he was about everyone else around him. He had a keen sense of whit and humor. I am proud to say I really respected him on every level he was a wonderful person in every way. He cared about his people at Software AG like no other. Such a gift to work for him. He was exceptional, were all better for him being a part of us.

RIP John Norris Maguire Jr.
Today a good man who was brought up in Brockton, a former proud Brocktonian passed away at home in Myrtle Beach South Carolina after a short illness. John Norris Maguire Jr. was Age 82.
The City of Brockton was formerly known as the “Shoe City” while John was growing up. Today it is known as the “City of Champions” John was one of those Champions. He grew up on Lincoln Road and graduated Brockton High School.
John was married to my father's cousin Ann Louise Connolly Maguire for 56 years. They had four children John III, Martin, Alicia, and Mike.
John received a B.S from University of Rhode Island and he received his Master Degree from M.I.T.
Growing up I would meet him at family gatherings especially the summer cookouts on Myrtle Street, where Ann's mother and father lived. I was always told he was “in computers” and “did well”. Remember this was the 70's. Computers were these large machines in big buildings, not the laptops, i-pads or phones that adorn most homes today.
That was all I knew until a few years ago when he shared an “oral history” of his business career. Who knew that the term “did well” meant that he started a company that was a direct competitor to the computer giants of the time like IBM. He even tells how he worked with the FBI when a Russian spy wanted to steal his software.
Later in life after retirement he donated a chair to MIT which is named in his honor as the “John Norris Maguire Professor of Information Technology
Sloan School of Management “
I remember well 22 years ago when we as a family were invited to a sixtieth birthday party he held for himself. We traveled to Virginia Beach where we partied on his very long yacht, followed by a nice dinner at the yacht club.
I would like to express the condolences of my family to his. May he rest in peace.

God bless uncle John,
With out aunt Ann and uncle Johns generosity I would never had the opportunity to attend college.
So glamourous worldly dashing and intelligent. He and aunt Ann seemed like movie stars to me.
I will miss him greatly. I am very sorry that I didn't see him before he passed

Two weeks since Jackie's passing and I am picturing him smiling down at all of us from heaven. He was the kind of granddad that lectured me on wearing eyeliner to do work because that just wasn't important, always wore a bright green blazer on St. Paddy's Day and just happened to be the best darn storyteller I've ever known. I am thankful and blessed to have known and loved him. I will miss him dearly, but think of him often in the life lessons he passed on, as well as some of the quirks, which I seem to have picked up along the way. I am thankful for the love he shared with grandma and I will always remember and smile at the way he referred to her as Ann, his first mate.

Dear Ann and family - I am deeply saddened and surprised by John's death. I knew something was wrong when my emails went unanswered. I have so many fond memories of John at work (stopping to visit everyone, movie camera, metal lunchbox, Serbien Crown, Innisbrook User Conference, driving his Mercedes to the airport, letting John know how much money came in so we could make payroll, fantastic Christmas parties, his generosity and how very much he cared for all his employees), at home, on the boat and in Florida. I am thankful our paths crossed and that I had the opportunity to know and love this great man. Rest in peace John.
