Mr. Avery Dalton Hardee, 88, died Monday, June 6, 2011 at Conway Medical Center following an illness. Born on February 11, 1923, in Loris, S.C., he was the son of Mr. William Mayo Hardee and Mrs. Attie Arjane Cox Hardee. Mr. Hardee served his country with courage and honor in the U.S. Army during WWII. He went on to retire from farming and was a longtime active member of Oak Dale Baptist Church.
Survivors include his sons, Steven Hardee and wife, Lynn, of Little River, and Stuart Hardee and wife, Gina, of Loris; brothers, William Joyce Hardee and wife, Rosa, of Loris, and Defford D. Hardee of Creedmoor; sisters, Iris Sarvis of Loris, Elga Russ of Sanford, Doris Piver of Tabor City, N.C., Leatis Smith and Carolyn Edwards of Rock Hill, and Vela Wood of Smithfield; five grandchildren, Kyle, Spring, and Lacie Hardee, Angie Hackett and Kim McNeese; and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Hardee was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Dorothy Jane Cox Hardee;, a brother, John Watis Hardee; sister, Mary Fipps; and sister-in-law, Jayne Hardee.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Oak Dale Baptist Church with committal services following at Hardee Family Cemetery at Oak Dale. Pastor Chris Inman and Reverend Haywood Fowler will officiate services. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 8, 2011, from 6 until 8 p.m., at Hardwick Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Gideon's International, P.O. Box 93, Loris, SC 29569, or the Connie Maxwell Children's Home P.O. Box 1178 Greenwood, SC 29648-1178.
