John Vaught Obituary

John Marion Vaught, Jr.
Conway
John Marion Vaught, Jr., 92, of Hwy. 90, died Thursday, June 25, 2015 at his residence.
Mr. Vaught was born in Conway, a son of the late John Marion Vaught, Sr., and Ruth Thompson Vaught. Prior to retirement, he was employed by Santee Cooper-Grainger Generating Plant. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Vaught was a member of the Gideons International, where he was a former president and Horry County leader. He was preceded in death by brothers, General James B. Vaught, CDR Thomas B. Vaught, Sr., Harry R. Vaught, Sr. and Paul M. Vaught, and sisters Jean V. Powell and Carol V. Lewis. Mr. Vaught was a member of Tilly Swamp Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher, deacon and in many other areas. He was on Adjunct Faculty at Horry-Georgetown Technical College. He was a Legionnaire of The Year and Chaplain for American Legion Post III.
Surviving are his wife of 69 years on June 21, Elsie Vaught of Conway; two sons, John Marion "Johnny" Vaught, III and wife Margaret Ann of Conway and David Collins Harmon-Vaught and wife Darlys of Louisville, KY; two daughters, Emma Ruth Vaught Warren and husband Kevin of Conway and Paula Vaught Adams and husband Jon of Fairfax Station, VA; ten grandchildren, Jonathan Vaught, Jeremy Vaught, John Kelly Thompkins, Emily Thompkins, Mark Harmon-Vaught, Sarah Harmon-Vaught, Christian Warren, Collins Warren, Jonathan Adams and David Adams; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Vina "Babe" Floyd of Surfside Beach, SC.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday at Tilly Swamp Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Altman and Rev. Lindsey Inman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3-5 PM Saturday at the church.
Memorials may be made to Tilly Swamp Baptist Church Building Fund, 4619 Hwy 90, Conway, SC 29526, or to the Gideons International, c/o Don Hopson, PO Box 614, Aynor, SC 29511. The family also gives thanks to Mercy Hospice.
