Lawrence F. Leonard, 82, died Thursday, July 8, 2010 after a short illness.
Born on January 7, 1928 in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Lawrence F. and Marguerite Kelly Leonard.
He was a graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 1945 and Manhattan College, Class of 1949 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He retired from New York State DOT in 1991 after 42 dedicated years of building and designing roads and bridges in NY State. He was an active member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
Mr. Leonard is survived by his wife of 56 years, Fran of Longs, SC; two sons, Larry Leonard (Jo-Anne), Peter Leonard (Nancy); two daughters, Jan Hanson (Dave), Sandy Brown (Kevin); 11 grandchildren, Tamara, Jennifer, Dani, Andrew, Patrick, Joshua, Kelsey, Brian, John, Karen, Shannon, and one great grandson, Will.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 pm, followed by a prayer service, on Monday, July 12, 2010 at Lee Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Tuesday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Burial will be at a later date in New York.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 37105 or Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 1100 8th Avenue North, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
