Cecilia Aguilar Lara

Cecilia Aguilar Lara, of Midland, loving mother, grandmother and sister, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2006.

She was born January 16, 1931 to Roberto Aguilar and Maria Castillo Aguilar in Asherton, Texas. On October 1, 1952 she married Merce Rayos Lara in Laredo, Texas. Before moving to Midland in 1954 she had lived in El Paso and Pecos. Cecilia held a B.A. degree in Education and had been a classroom teacher with Midland Independent School District prior to her retirement. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where she was involved as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, C.C.D. teacher, the Legion of Mary and Cursillo Movement, and had been president of the Altar Society. Other memberships included the Texas State Teachers Association, Texas Classroom Teachers, Project Blueprint (United Way), the Senior Volunteer Organization, and President of Casa de Amigos Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband.

Cecilia is survived by her sons, Robert Lara and wife, Sue, of Midland, TX; George Lara of Dallas, TX; Gilbert Lara of San Francisco, CA; Leonard Lara and wife, Martha, and Merce Lara, Jr., and wife, Diana, all of San Angelo, TX; daughters, Rossana Ruiz and husband, Tony, and Sussana Lara, all of Midland, TX; step-daughter, Mary Olgin and husband, Joe, of Midland, TX; twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren; sister, Alicia Salgado of Midland, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at Ellis Funeral Home.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Joe Olgin, Jr., Robert Lara, Jr., Tony Ruiz, Jr., Leonard Lara, Peter Rey Lara and Steven Zarate. Honorary pallbearers are John Edward Olgin, Eric Lara, Isaiah Hinojos, Vincent Lara and Michael Robles. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
